I’ve been a contributor to Aurora Photos for a few years now, not a solid contributor, not a monthly contributor, but a contributor none the less. Aurora has been pushing into new ground with various idea, concepts and plans. The latest is partnering with Blurb and creating a way for Aurora contributors to develop new photo books and leverage the community and marketing efforts already going on at Aurora. Seems like a better way to get into the book publishing realm for both the photographers and the agency. Their first go at it was a book for Father’s Day. Curious to see how the response was.
The other enterprise starting to gain traction is the MyPhone collection, pretty self explanatory, a collection
dedicated to mobile phone photos. Advertising is heading that way, why not get into the mix and provide clients with images that fit the medium. It’s right out of the starting gate but building daily, definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Here’s the boilerplate from Aurora’s site. Jose is a local to the area, just over the border in Lovell, Maine.
Aurora Photos is a stock photography agency, a photographic assignment agency, a multimedia production company, and now a publisher of on demand photo books. Beyond that, Aurora fosters a community of visually creative individuals, and supports that community with industry information, career advice, and with traditional and unique revenue opportunities. Founded in 1993 by Jose Azel, the company has been through many iterations, surviving constant upheaval in the photography industry through constantly re-inventing itself, staying on the cutting edge of technology, and consistently representing the highest quality photography and photographers.
